QINGDAO, CHINA – Liberia’s Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung has made a strong pitch for enhanced trade and investment cooperation between Liberia and the People’s Republic of China during his remarks at the Sixth Qingdao Multinationals Summit, held June 18-20, 2025, in Shandong Province.
Representing President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and the Liberian people, Vice President Koung said Liberia is ready to pursue a bold new chapter of economic partnership with China, marking the first time a high-level Liberian delegation has attended the prestigious international business summit.
“This signifies a new beginning for further collaboration between Liberia and China,” Koung told a gathering of Chinese officials, business leaders, and global delegates. He emphasized Liberia’s desire to build lasting partnerships that go beyond economic growth and are rooted in trust, shared prosperity, and mutual benefit.
Koung praised Qingdao for its advanced port facilities, strong manufacturing sector, and expanding footprint in green energy, finance, and technology, describing the coastal city as a model for global economic integration. He said Liberia, as a nation rich in natural resources and poised for growth, seeks to attract investment and deepen trade relations with Chinese enterprises looking for strategic partnerships in West Africa.
“My message from the Government and People of Liberia is clear: we want to deepen trade relations, promote joint investment opportunities, and build lasting partnerships that deliver results, not only for today, but for generations to come,” he said.
The vice president’s remarks also addressed global economic challenges, including climate change, geopolitical tension, and the rapid evolution of technology. He called for more multinational cooperation, describing it as an imperative rather than a choice, and urged leaders at the summit to prioritize green and digital transitions, transparent business practices, and youth-focused investment.
Koung concluded with an optimistic tone, expressing confidence that Liberia’s renewed engagement with Qingdao and China would pave the way for long-term success and tangible outcomes.
“Let this be the beginning of a bold, forward-looking partnership between Liberia, China, and the global community, one that reflects the highest ideals of international cooperation,” he stated.
