MONROVIA – Gbarpolu County Senator Amara Konneh has confirmed the arrest of all suspects connected to the disturbing abuse case in Bellebalorma, where a woman was tied to a chair in a video that went viral on Facebook on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
Senator Konneh disclosed that with the cooperation of the local commissioner and community, the Liberia National Police (LNP) apprehended the remaining two suspects, who are now in custody pending their arraignment before the Magisterial Court on Monday. He noted that the first two suspects were arraigned on Friday and are already behind bars.
“We thank Inspector General Gregory Coleman and his Gbarpolu Commander Bicarba Jallah for professionally handling this matter, Commissioner John Belleh, and his community for their cooperation,” Konneh said in a statement.
He also revealed that the victim is under the care of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in Monrovia, receiving both medical and counseling support. “We thank Minister Gbemie Teta Horace Kollie and her team for their swift action,” he added.
Senator Konneh further assured that beyond ensuring justice for the victim, his office is engaging elders, traditional chiefs, and zoes to raise awareness against punishment rules carried out under the guise of cultural tradition.
“As justice takes its course, we are also working with our elders, traditional chiefs, and zoes to raise awareness and discourage these punishment rules in the name of our revered cultural tradition in Gbarpolu. We deeply respect our culture, but we will protect individual rights,” Konneh emphasized.
The senator expressed confidence that the people of Gbarpolu, who he described as law-abiding, will heed the message. “Thanks to everyone for your interest in this case,” he concluded.
