LIBERIA REVENUE AUTHORITY’S SENGBEH URGES MEDIA TO STRENGTHEN TAX REPORTING AND ACCOUNTABILITY

MARGIBI COUNTY – The Manager for Communications, Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) at the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Danicius Kaihenneh Sengbeh, has called on journalists, editors, and talk show hosts to balance their watchdog role with responsible reporting as the tax authority seeks to strengthen collaboration with the media to boost public understanding of revenue issues.

Speaking on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the closing of a two-day training for talk show hosts and editors at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi County, Sengbeh described the engagement as “historic” and expressed deep satisfaction with the level of dialogue and learning that took place. He emphasized that the media and the LRA share a common mission of contributing to national development through accurate information sharing and public engagement.

“These conversations have not only deepened our mutual understanding but have also reinforced a truth we all share: that the LRA and the media are not on separate paths, but on a single road leading toward a better Liberia,” Sengbeh said. “You are the trusted voices that can interpret and frame taxation and revenue administration in ways that empower citizens, strengthen compliance, and inspire national development.”

He encouraged participants to use the knowledge gained during the training to inform, clarify, and question responsibly in their daily reporting. “As you return to your studios, newsrooms, and editorial desks, “I urge you to use the knowledge gained here to inform, to clarify, and to challenge where necessary, always with the goal of truth, accuracy, and service to Liberia,” Sengbeh added.

The CMPA Manager stressed that the partnership between the media and the LRA is not intended to be about “praise-singing,” but rather about fostering mutual respect, transparency, and accountability. “Let me emphasize that this partnership is not about praise-singing for the LRA, but about fostering mutual respect, transparency, and accountability,” Sengbeh stated. “The media plays a watchdog role, and we welcome that. But as you continue to hold us accountable, we also count on you to ensure that information about taxation, customs, and our operations is accurate, contextual, and constructive, because misinformation helps no one, and truth benefits all.”

Sengbeh described the training as both inspiring and memorable, noting that participants had shared experiences, exchanged ideas, and made recommendations that will shape future LRA–media relations. He pledged the LRA’s continued commitment to building a network of informed “tax ambassadors” within the media landscape through ongoing training and partnership.

“Together, we can and will tell Liberia’s tax story better,” Sengbeh concluded.
