LRA ORDERS INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGATIONS OF BRIBERY & EXTORTION INVOLVING STAFF

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has launched an investigation into allegations of bribery and extortion involving three of its employees, including two Assistant Commissioners. The allegations were raised during a live radio broadcast on 28 October 2026 and subsequently circulated on social media.

The allegations arose from claims made by an individual identified as a Nigerian businessman, who accused the three employees of obtaining money from him under the pretext of facilitating the award of a contract to develop software for the Authority.

The LRA recognizes the seriousness of these allegations and the public concerns they have generated. The Authority remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and accountability in the administration of Liberia’s revenue laws.

In response, the Commissioner General, James Dorbor Jallah, has directed the LRA’s Professional Ethics Division to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation. The investigation is underway, with appropriate safeguards in place to preserve evidence, prevent interference and ensure fairness.

The Authority emphasizes that the allegations remain unproven and that all employees concerned are entitled to due process and fair treatment. Any necessary interim administrative measures will be considered in accordance with the LRA’s Human Resource Policy, ethical guidelines and established procedures.

Speaking on the matter, Commissioner General Jallah stated:

“The LRA belongs to the Liberian people, and public trust is the foundation of everything we do. These allegations are serious, and they will be investigated fully, fairly and without fear or favor. No one is above the rules of this Authority. Where wrongdoing is established, appropriate action will follow, and where staff are cleared, that too will be made known.”

The LRA assures the public that appropriate administrative or disciplinary actions will be taken where misconduct is established, consistent with its Human Resource Policy, ethical guidelines and core values. Where warranted, matters will be referred to the relevant national authorities in accordance with applicable laws.

Individuals with credible information are encouraged to report through the LRA’s whistleblowing platform available on its official website, with information handled in accordance with applicable confidentiality procedures.

The Authority will provide public updates at appropriate stages of the investigation while safeguarding its integrity and the rights of those involved.
