LIBERIANS PROTEST OVER ECONOMIC HARDSHIP

LIBERIA – Liberians in their number joined a rally in Monrovia on Saturday, protesting over economic hardships and President George Weah’s prolonged absence from the country.

Saturday’s rally under the banner “We Tiyah Suffering” was organized by the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP). The rally was held outside of the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville…

Many of the protesters wore shirts printed with the face of Alexander Cummings. The protesters held banners with the inscription “We Tiyah Suffering.” Cummings is the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC). He will challenge President Weah for the presidency in the 2023 general and presidential elections.

President Weah has been out of the country for over a month. He was in Qatar to watch his son, Timothy Weah, play for the U.S. men’s team in the FIFA World Cup. Last week, The President attended the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit in Washington.

At the rally, the event’s main organizer Amb. Lewis Garseedah Brown II, a prominent Liberian said: “Too many people in this country are suffering, cannot pay rent, cannot pay school fees.”

Adding, “People are tired.”

Amb. Brown served as Minister of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism and was appointed by former President Sirleaf as Liberia’s permanent Ambassador to the United Nations and Liberia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at the Republic of Cuba in 2016.
