NPP CHAIRMAN SAYS GEORGE WEAH IS RUNNING A ONE-SIDED GOVERNMENT

Date:

LIBERIA – The chairman of the former ruling National Patriotic Party (NPP), James Baney says President George Weah is running a one-sided government, contrary to their tripartite arrangement.

The Maryland County Senator says NPP, LPDP, and CDC in 2016 formed a coalition to challenge the ruling Unity Party at the time. He added that since the election was won by the Coalition in 2017, some elements of the Congress for Democratic Change do not seem to see the NPP and LPDP as equal partners.

Speaking as guest speaker of the LPDP convention in Tubmanburg, Bomi County recently, Senator Barney noted that since the Coalition government was established, NPP and LPDP had not got their fair share; which he said contradicts the spirit and intent of the agreement.

He indicated that the two parties are not treated fairly by President Weah and his CDC party; pointing out that the two parties will have to engage the president to ensure that the tripartite agreement is respected.

The NPP is the political wing of the rebel NPFL. It was formed shortly after disarmament in the Liberian civil war by its leader Charles Taylor, now convicted by the special court of Sierra Leone for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The LPDP was formed by former House Speaker Alex Tyler and cohorts. While the CDC was organized by George Weah and his supporters.
