CUMMINGS HAILS NEC RULINGS, STRESSES THE NEED FOR HONESTY AND SINCERITY FOR ACCOUNTABLE LEADERSHIP

Date:

LIBERIA – The Board of Commissioners (BoC) has heard and denied the Appeal of the Unity Party (UP) and the All Liberian Party (ALP), from the Ruling of the Hearing Officer. We expect the two parties to proceed to the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia where this matter will be finally decided. Meanwhile, the Ruling of the BoC again represents an important victory for the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), and the Liberian people.

I welcome the Ruling of the BoC, and again congratulate the leaderships of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) and the Liberty Party (LP), for the show of uncommon courage to call out the wrongful actions and falsehoods of the leaderships of the UP and the ALP. If Liberia is to change, we must begin to hold our leaders to higher standards of public accountability for stewardship and truth-telling. We must also make it difficult to break promises leaders will make to the Liberian people.

We are mindful of the need to unite the opposition against the failed leadership of President Weah. However, our unity is best sustained through a commitment to honesty and sincerity in saying what we mean and meaning what we say.
