TO DENOUNCE CORRUPTION IN LIBERIA, TIAWAN GONGLOE CALLS FOR NATIONWIDE PROTEST

MONROVIA – The opposition Liberian People’s Party (LPP) has called for nationwide protests today, July 19 to denounce corruption in the country. It is unclear how many participants the call may draw and whether authorities have sanctioned the protests. Further details are limited; organizers have not announced specific gathering times and locations. The largest gatherings are likely in Monrovia, with Capitol Hill being a possible focal point for protests.

Should the protests proceed, a heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are likely near all gatherings. Given the anti-government nature of the action, clashes with security forces cannot be ruled out.

According to a statement from LPP, Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe, the standard bearer of the opposition Liberian People’s Party (LPP), will lead the mass protest against alleged corruption across the country.

The renowned human rights lawyer told a press conference on Ashmum Street in Monrovia Monday, 17 July 2023, that the anti-corruption campaign is captioned: The Broom Parade.

” Ladies and Gentlemen, this press conference is to call upon the Liberian people to turn out on July 19, 2023, to take part in a major anti-corruption campaign under the theme: Anti-Corruption Campaign or (ACC),” said Cllr. Gongloe.

The call for a nationwide protest comes just a day following a thundering output of partisans of the CDC in a ‘Weah thank you rally’, on Monday.

The rally witnessed speeches of development projects and major investment initiatives carried out by George Weah’s government over the last six years. IPNEWS
