LIBERIAN GOVERNMENT MUTES ON SENATOR’S ALLEGED  LINK TO COUP PLOT IN SIERRA LEONE

Date:

MONROVIA – The Government of Sierra Leone has linked Mintserrado County senator to a plot to destabilize Sierra Leone and overthrow President Julius Maada Bio.

The Sierra Leone Government has not shown any proof of the Liberian Senator’s involvement, however, the recent arrest of Mohammed Toure in Monrovia, said to be the ringleader of the plot, raises eyebrows.

The Sierra Leone Government says when the ringleader Toure, otherwise called 8080, was arrested by Liberian Police, Senator Saah Joseph allegedly provided lawyers to defend his legal interest.

The accusation made by the Sierra Leonean government, against the Liberian Senator, Saah Joseph to a coup plot in Sierra Leone, has raised serious concerns amongst some Liberians at a time the Campaign for elections slated for October 10 is ongoing.

Some Liberians are concerned that while, the Weah Government is sorting out the extradition of the alleged ranking Sierra Leonean dissident, Mohammad Toure, the Liberian government remains silent on the allegations made against Senator Joseph, who is a right-hand man of Pres. Weah. He was seen with the Liberian leader yesterday on the Slipway soccer field, on a campaign trail.

“It is crucial to emphasize that the Liberian Government exercises the principles of transparency and due process by conducting a thorough investigation, in respect for the rule of law”, one Liberian political commentator.

The Importance of Transparency:

In order to address the accusations leveled against Senator Sarr Hallie Joseph, it is imperative that the Liberian government demonstrates transparency in its response. The public has the right to be informed about the progress of any investigation and the evidence supporting the allegations by the accusers. By sharing information responsibly, the government can foster trust and ensure that justice is served. Sarr Joseph is seeking another senatorial term.

Presumption of Innocence and Due Process:

It is essential to uphold the principle of the presumption of innocence until guilt is proven in a court of law. The accusations made by the Sierra Leonean government should not be taken as definitive proof of Senator Joseph’s involvement in the alleged coup plot.

Instead, a fair and impartial investigation should be conducted, affording Senator Joseph the opportunity to present his side of the story and provide any evidence that may refute the allegations.

International Cooperation and Diplomatic Relations:

Accusations of this nature can strain diplomatic relations between countries. It is crucial for both Liberia and Sierra Leone to engage in open and constructive dialogue to address the accusations and ensure that justice is served. Cooperation between the two governments in investigating the alleged coup plot will not only demonstrate commitment to the rule of law but also foster an environment of trust and collaboration.

Protection of Individual Rights:

Throughout this process, it is essential to protect the rights of all individuals involved. Senator Sarr Hallie Joseph should be afforded the opportunity to defend himself and present any evidence supporting his innocence. Additionally, any individuals implicated in the alleged coup plot, including Mohammed Toure, should be treated in accordance with international human rights standards, ensuring their safety and well-being.

All efforts made to contact the Montserrado Senator failed up to press time.
