MONROVIA – As the 2023 elections political campaign enters its third week, former presidential press secretary, Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, has referred to President George Weah, as a cultist and a killer.
Although, Piah, who was recently named Media Advisor on the main opposition Unity Party’s National Campaign Media Team, did not elaborate, he indicated that President Weah has blood on his hands and he would be made to account.
These assertions of Piah, who served as press secretary to former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, were contained in his reaction in the comment section of a Facebook post recently made by a staunch supporter of a Joe Boakai presidency, Therry Genesis.
He posted that unlike President Weah’s supporters, who wear red or blue berets, the Liberian leader was wearing a black colored beret at a certain campaign function of the CDC, suggesting that the black beret worn by the President indicates that he’s a cultist.
Genesis, who had on previous occasions, countlessly accused President Weah of being a murderer without providing any evidence, claimed in his recent Facebook post that the black beret, as worn by the Liberian Head of State, symbolizes death, and that he’s a cultist.
“The BLACK BERET of DEATH is on the head of the CULTIST,” Genesis wrote.
Thereby, in reaction to Genesis’s Facebook post, former presidential press secretary Piah wrote in the thread under said post: “Not just a cultist, but a killer with bloody hands. He will be made to account!”
Howbeit, the Executive mansion, when contacted by Smart News Liberia (SNL), rebutted Piah’s and Genesis’ assertions, indicating that President Weah is neither a cultist nor a killer.
Deputy presidential press secretary, Smith N. Toby, in a telephone interview with SNL on Friday, stated that neither of the men nor anyone else determines what the president wears, noting that President Weah is currently in a campaign mood, and he can choose whatever to wear, especially what would distinguish him from the rest of his partisans and supporters.
Toby, who stated that the Executive Mansion would not want to dignify such comments from Piah and Genesis as to what the President wears, pointed out that “we should stop judging people as to what they wear, and President Weah is not a cultist.”
