BREAKING: LEADERSHIP OF LIBERIAN LEGISLATURE TO ORDER POSTPONEMENT OF  NATIONAL POPULATION AND HOUSING  CENSUS

Date:

LIBERIA – Smart News Liberia has learned from credible sources that the leadership of the House of Representatives and Senate have met in an emergency section today and has agreed to order the indefinite postponement of the National Population and Housing Census.

The President has declared Friday, November 11 as census day and has been declared a national holiday.

However, according to sources, the leadership of the legislature has agreed to halt all processes leading to the holding of the census until it meets with all agencies of government responsible to conduct the census.

The action of the lawmakers is a result of the disruptive manner in which activities leading to the census are obtained. Our sources say, officials of the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services and the Ministry of Finance will be invited by the Legislature to explain what is causing the hullabaloo in the census process. Details will follow.
