MEDIA AND CSO GROUP WANTS PEACH BILITY REARRESTED

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Green Media Campaigners, a media and civil society advocacy group, is calling for the immediate re-arrest of Peach Bility, son of Representative Musa Bility, following his mysterious release from detention despite facing non-bailable drug and firearm charges.

Peach Bility was arrested in March 2024 by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) at Miami Beach with illegal drugs and firearms, including 21.4 grams of Kush, 500 grams of Marijuana, a single-barrel gun, an orange-colored firearm, and a black pistol with ammunition. He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and the sale and distribution of illegal drugs—both classified as first-degree felonies under Liberia’s Controlled Drugs and Substances Act of 2014, as amended in 2023. These offenses are non-bailable and carry a penalty of life imprisonment.

However, in December 2024, credible reports surfaced that Representative Musa Bility had visited his son’s prison cell in Monrovia, and shortly after, Peach Bility was mysteriously released without standing trial. He has since been spotted in Kakata City, reportedly en route to Nimba County, aligedly driving a vehicle belonging to his father’s foundation.

The group in a press release issued in Monrovia on Monday, February 24, 2025, says it  strongly condemn this blatant disregard for the rule of law and demands immediate accountability.

“The circumstances surrounding Peach Bility’s release raise serious concerns about the integrity, independence, and fairness of Liberia’s justice system. While ordinary citizens accused of lesser crimes remain in overcrowded prisons, the son of a lawmaker walks free despite facing serious charges. This is a clear case of injustice and abuse of power,” said Steve Doito, Lead Campaigner of the group.

With drug addiction and trafficking posing a severe threat to communities across Liberia, Green Media Campaigners believes that Peach Bility’s release undermines the country’s commitment to the fight against drugs and crime.

“The government cannot claim to be serious about combating drug-related crimes when individuals with political connections evade justice. This showcase the ongoing struggle between privilege and the law. If the justice system is to be respected, it must be applied equally to all,” Doito mentioned.

The group is therefore calling on the Ministry of Justice, the Liberia National Police, and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency to act swiftly in re-arresting Peach Bility and ensuring that he faces trial as required by law.

Green Media Campaigners further urges civil society organizations, the media, and concerned citizens to stand up against the misuse of power and demand justice for all Liberians.
