CRIMINAL COURT “C” REGAINS CONTROL OF TWEAH ECONOMIC SABOTAGE CASE FOLLOWING SUPREME COURT MANDATE

By Smart News Liberia

MONROVIA – Criminal Court “C” has formally resumed proceedings in the widely followed economic sabotage case involving former Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel D. Tweah and four other former government officials after receiving and reading the mandate issued by the Supreme Court of Liberia.

The mandate was presented and read on Monday before Assigned Circuit Judge Ousman F. Feika, officially restoring jurisdiction over the matter to the lower court and paving the way for the next phase of legal proceedings.

The case, which has attracted considerable public attention, centers on allegations involving the handling and use of public funds during the previous administration. Prosecutors accused the defendants of several offenses, including economic sabotage, theft of property, money laundering, criminal conspiracy, and criminal facilitation.

The return of the matter to Criminal Court “C” follows earlier proceedings that concluded with mixed outcomes for the accused individuals. Former Finance Minister Tweah and former Financial Intelligence Agency Comptroller D. Moses Cooper were cleared of all charges brought against them. However, verdicts involving the remaining defendants were divided, with some counts resulting in guilty findings while others ended in a hung jury.

The latest development comes against the backdrop of continuing concerns surrounding allegations of jury tampering that emerged during the trial. Those allegations have remained a subject of legal and public interest since the conclusion of the proceedings and are expected to play a role in subsequent court actions.
