EPS ANNOUNCES STRICTER MEASURES TO PROTECT PRESIDENTIAL CONVOYS

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Executive Protection Service (EPS) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding heightened security measures for the Presidential and Vice-Presidential convoys. This move comes in response to repeated violations of traffic laws by motorists, emergency vehicle operators, and pedestrians, which the EPS says have compromised the safety of Liberia’s top leaders.

In a press release issued Wednesday, January 22, 2025, and signed by EPS Director Sam Gaye, the agency emphasized that noncompliance with traffic regulations, particularly Section 10.45 of the Vehicle and Traffic Laws of Liberia, will no longer be tolerated. This law mandates that all vehicles and pedestrians must yield the right-of-way to emergency and official motorcades.

The EPS noted several incidents where drivers of medical emergency vehicles, fire trucks, and private motorists failed to yield to the Presidential motorcade, alongside instances of unsafe pedestrian behavior. These actions, the EPS said, pose significant risks to both the nation’s leadership and public safety.

Effective immediately, all motorists and pedestrians are required to comply with the sound of sirens from the Presidential escort. The EPS stated it will take necessary legal measures to address any violations, including detaining offenders and transferring them to the Liberia National Police for prosecution.

“These measures are critical to ensuring the security of the President and Vice President, as well as the safety of the general public,” the release said, urging citizens to adhere to traffic regulations.

The EPS has called on all Liberians, including emergency responders, to cooperate in maintaining order and safeguarding the nation’s leadership.
