FORMER CDC CHAIRMAN MULBAH MORLU BLASTS BOAKAI GOVERNMENT IN STRONG STATEMENT

By Socrates Smythe Saywon | Smart News Liberia

MONROVIA – Former Coalition for Democratic Change National Chairman Mulbah K. Morlu, now heading the civil society group Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND), has issued a statement against President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and officials of the Ministry of Information, sparking fresh tensions with the Unity Party-led government.

In a statement released Thursday, April 30, 2026, under the title “A Firm and Unflinching Response to the Government of Liberia’s Thrash-Talkers,” Morlu accused the Boakai administration of relying on falsehoods, political intimidation, and smear tactics against critics.

Morlu described President Boakai as the former opposition figure who frequently criticized government during the Unity Party’s years out of power, but who now leads what he called an administration built on deception.

“President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the lead barking dog during the UP opposition years, who has spent almost three years building an entire government on a thousand lies, has unleashed his itchy little dogs at the Information Ministry,” Morlu declared.

The former CDC chairman said criticism against him followed his remarks that President Boakai did not deserve a peace award. According to Morlu, any such recognition would be controversial because of alleged abuses and divisions under the current government.

He further criticized the reported inclusion of Liberia National Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman on an official foreign trip, claiming it reflected a decline in moral leadership. Morlu accused Coleman of links to controversial incidents, though no court conviction on those claims was cited in the statement.

Turning his attention to the Ministry of Information, Morlu accused government communicators of abandoning substance for personal attacks. He said officials were more focused on insulting critics than addressing serious national concerns.

“The statements coming from the Ministry’s barking dogs reflect the classic Emperor’s New Clothes scenario, where an entire institution is perceived to have traded its moral credibility for scraps,” he said.

Morlu also used the statement to defend his personal independence, claiming he had rejected opportunities to serve in the current administration on principle. He insisted he had never depended on government employment for survival.

“Unlike this trash-talker, I have never relied on a government job to arrive at where I am today. I may not be rich, but I am comfortable,” Morlu stated.

He said his activism and protest actions are driven by commitment to Liberia’s youth and future generations rather than personal gain. Morlu described himself as “a revolutionary and activist in both purpose and action.”

The opposition figure also accused President Boakai of attempting to centralize power in a way that could threaten Liberia’s democratic progress. He warned that the administration was steering itself toward political instability through what he termed vengeance-driven leadership.

In closing, Morlu signaled more political confrontation ahead, issuing a warning to government officials. “What then will you do when the real war on your regime’s bad governance is declared next week? Don’t hunt what you can’t kill!” he said.

However, the Boakai administration swiftly responded through Deputy Information Minister Daniel O. Sando during the Ministry’s regular press briefing in Monrovia.

Sando strongly rejected Morlu’s allegations and launched a fierce counterattack, describing the former CDC chairman as dishonest and politically frustrated.

“I repeat again, Morlu is a demonic and pathological liar. He is broke and frustrated. He is a faceless character,” Sando declared during the briefing.

The Deputy Information Minister further accused Morlu of misleading Liberians in the past, alleging that he falsely presented himself as a pastor while in a refugee camp in Ghana and had repeatedly made questionable public claims.

Sando also referenced an old controversy involving Morlu’s claimed meeting with former U.S. President Barack Obama, stating that the United States Embassy in Liberia had previously denied the assertion.

Continuing his criticism, Sando described Morlu as “very angry, shameless, and cashless,” while dismissing the opposition figure’s latest statement as politically motivated.
