GOL TO HOST FIRST DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS RETREAT TO ADVANCE NATIONAL PLAN

Date:

MONROVIA – The Government of Liberia is set to host its first Development Partners Retreat (DPR) on Thursday, April 17, at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Monrovia. The event, held under the theme “Strengthening Partnerships for the Implementation of Liberia’s National Plan – AAID,” aims to mobilize greater cooperation and support for the country’s bold new development agenda.

Coming at a pivotal moment in Liberia’s post-conflict evolution, the retreat seeks to reinforce the country’s path toward inclusive and transformative growth. With more than two decades of peace and democratic consolidation, Liberia is now focusing on its newly adopted National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025–2029, titled the Arrest Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).

The forum is expected to serve as a strategic platform to strengthen coordination between the Liberian government and its development partners, aligning key priorities and identifying innovative ways to finance national goals. Discussions will center on the Country Development Agendas (CDAs), which serve as critical planning tools to guide national and local development efforts.

A release from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning indicates that the retreat is expected to conclude with a renewed commitment to coordination and the pursuit of sustainable financing strategies. Participants will include senior government officials, international development partners, ambassadors, heads of cooperation, representatives from the United Nations and other international organizations, as well as voices from the private sector, academia, civil society, youth organizations, and NGOs.

The AAID outlines an ambitious agenda to shift Liberia from a low-income to a lower-middle-income country. To achieve this, an estimated $8.3 billion will be needed, with about 30 percent anticipated from domestic resources. The balance will require substantial external support, particularly as global development financing faces growing constraints and competition.
