MONROVIA – Cllr. Dempster Brown, Chairperson of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR), is urging President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to overhaul his inner circle by removing officials who are underperforming, warning that inaction could trigger instability in the country.
Addressing reporters on the grounds of the Supreme Court on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Cllr. Brown called on the President to take decisive steps in reshaping his administration. He stressed that replacing ineffective members of the government is crucial for maintaining order and credibility.
“If we want stability and wish to attract international attention and investment, the rule of law must be respected,” he emphasized. “Officials who are not delivering should be replaced before the situation deteriorates.”
Cllr. Brown also accused some of President Boakai’s legal advisors of providing misleading counsel, claiming their actions are detrimental to national governance.
“They’re not telling the Oldman the truth, and that’s dangerous for us all,” he said, expressing frustration with what he described as poor legal guidance surrounding the presidency.
He went on to lament that the Commission has been unfairly labeled as part of the opposition, despite its legal mandate to advise the President on human rights matters. According to him, the INCHR has been sidelined from playing that role.
The human rights chief also disclosed a troubling increase in rights violations across the country. He cited unexplained deaths, acts of police brutality, and incidents involving missing persons—all documented in the Commission’s latest report covering the current administration’s first 15 months in office.
Cllr. Brown confirmed that the report has been submitted to relevant authorities and called for immediate action. He concluded by underscoring the importance of adhering to the rule of law, especially as the nation looks to strengthen its democratic institutions.
