LIBERIA: POLICE CHARGED 30-YEAR-OLD LEBANESE NATIONAL WITH MISAPPLICATION OF ENTRUSTED PROPERTY

KAKATA, MARGIBI COUNTY – Police in Margibi County have charged a Lebanese national with the crime of misapplication of entrusted property in keeping with section 15.56 of the new revised penal laws of Liberia.

Ali Rashid, age 30 was arrested based upon a complaint filed by the co-proprietress of the Golden Frozen and cold storage Business Center located in Kakata, Fatima Conneh- Farah.

The Liberia News Agency quoting a copy of a police charge sheet said Mrs. Farah observed that defendant Ali Rashid was not making monthly reports on sales from the business center.

According to the complainant/ victim Fatima Conneh- Farah, defendant Ali Rashid was hired to serve as general manager for her Golden Fresh Frozen Food Cold Storage located in Kakata City, Margibi County where served for about a year now.

She further stated to the Liberia National Police Crime Services Division( CSD) that she observed of late that defendant Ali Rashid was not reporting as expected for which they decided to conduct an audit of the business under his management, something that was conducted on March 14, 2023, of which they realized during the internal investigation failed to account for cash money in the amount of forty-four thousand five hundred and twenty-nine United States dollars.

It was on the basis of the above-mentioned incident that she filed a formal complaint to the police on March 14, 2023 to the Liberia National Police Crime  Services Division Detachment in Kakata.

During the police preliminary investigation, defendant Ali Rashid denied ever misappropriating any of the business money for his personal use but instead shifted blames on employees.

In his voluntary statement, defendant Rashid who has been serving as general manager of the business for about a year now pointed accusing fingers at his employees he supervises but however failed to provide any substantial proof or evidence as he claimed during the investigation conducted by the Liberia National Police Crime Services Division, CSD.

However, based on the findings of the investigation by the Crime Services Division CSD of the Liberia National Police detachment in Margibi County, defendant Ali Rashid was subsequently charged with the crime of misapplication of entrusted property in consonance with section 15.56 of the revised penal laws and have forwarded to court for criminal prosecution.

Meanwhile, defendant Ali Rashid has been forwarded to the Kakata Magisterial Court for prosecution.

He was arraigned before court late Tuesday, April 18, 2023, before the Kakata Magisterial Court before the Stipendiary Magistrate, Julius Brown.
