MONROVIA, LIBERIA – A Liberia National Police (LNP) officer, Humphrey Khan, is recovering from serious injuries after being attacked while enforcing motorcycle restrictions in central Monrovia. The incident occurred on Monday, March 10, 2025, near Johnson Street, where a commercial motorcyclist struck Officer Khan on the head with a commode top. He is currently receiving treatment at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center.
The Liberia National Police has condemned the assault, emphasizing the dangers officers face while maintaining public safety. “Our officers face immense risks daily to ensure public safety. However, our dedication to maintaining law and order and our resilience remain strong,” the LNP said in a statement.
Street Kids Liberia, a local advocacy group, has also denounced the attack and called for swift action against the perpetrator. The organization’s Executive Director, Amos Harris, urged the LNP to reinforce its “No-Go Zones” policy to prevent future incidents. “This is a country governed by law, not by individuals acting with impunity. Every Liberian must respect the law,” Harris said.
The “No-Go Zones” policy restricts commercial motorcyclists from operating in central Monrovia due to concerns about traffic congestion and public safety. Despite these regulations, tensions between motorcyclists and law enforcement have continued to escalate.
Street Kids Liberia expressed solidarity with the LNP and called on authorities to thoroughly investigate the attack and ensure justice is served. The organization also urged all stakeholders to support efforts to maintain law and order in Liberia.
Officer Khan remains under medical supervision as the police continue their investigation into the incident.
