MIAMEN QUESTIONS WHY KAILONDO’S BUILDING REMAINS UNTOUCHED

Date:

MONROVIA – Anderson D. Miamen, a prominent transparency advocate on Thursday, April 17, 2025, called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai administration, particularly the Ministry of Public Works, to clarify why a building reportedly owned by businessman and politician George Bobby Kailondo remains untouched amid ongoing demolitions.

“This is a valid concern; thank you for raising it,” Miamen wrote in reaction to a DN-News report. “The Liberian Government, especially the Ministry of Public Works, needs to explain and give cogent reasons why this building, reportedly belonging to businessman and politician Kailondo, is still standing while all others have been demolished.”

According to DN-News, the Ministry appears to be exhibiting preferential treatment toward Kailondo’s multi-story building, located along Tubman Boulevard near the 540 Junction. The news outlet noted that while numerous structures along the proposed route for two overhead bridges have been demolished, Kailondo’s building, despite allegedly lying within the right-of-way, remains untouched. The report emphasized that surrounding buildings have been razed, sparking concerns of selective enforcement.

“This situation prompts questions about the Ministry’s criteria for demolition and whether political affiliations influence such decisions,” the report stated.

George Bobby Kailondo is a well-known businessman and political figure in Liberia. He is a staunch supporter of the ruling Unity Party and has publicly endorsed President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s leadership, urging Liberians to remain hopeful and patient as the new administration works to improve living conditions.

The growing public concern now centers on whether Kailondo’s political alignment has shielded his property from demolition, a scenario that, if true, could undermine public trust and raise issues of fairness in government policy implementation.

Transparency advocates and civil society groups are urging the Ministry of Public Works to publicly disclose its demolition strategy and ensure equal treatment for all property owners, regardless of political connections.
