MOIMA BRIGGS MENSAH: NO SPEAKER ABOVE THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE

Date:

MONROVIA – Bong County District #6 Representative Moima Briggs Mensah has spoken out on the ongoing leadership standoff at the House of Representatives, vowing to support the removal of embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa if he fails to maintain quorum.

In a statement issued Monday, Mensah clarified her current status amid swirling rumors surrounding her political alignment. She disclosed that she is presently attending an official ECOWAS event in The Gambia and will later proceed to Cape Verde to participate in the Annual Meeting of the WAHO Financial Support Steering Committees of ECOWAS Member States.

Addressing the growing uncertainty at the Legislature, Representative Mensah emphasized her commitment to transparency and accountability. “Speculation steams unnecessary rumors and confusion. I am committed to transparency and truth,” she stated.

Mensah reaffirmed her respect for the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia and pledged to abide by its rulings. However, she made it clear that if Speaker Koffa cannot command the confidence of the majority, she is prepared to sign in favor of his removal. According to her, Speaker Koffa has lost the moral authority to preside over the House, regardless of the circumstances that led to it.

“For too long, the first branch of government and our decentralized representation have been seen as unserious and as mere troublemakers. I am committed to changing this narrative,” Mensah declared, urging her colleagues to join efforts in restoring dignity to the Legislature.

Mensah stressed that the rule of law must prevail and that no individual, institution, or government is above the will and interests of the people. She defined those interests as ensuring a “well-functioning, transparent, and law-abiding Legislature.”
