LIBERTY PARTY DENOUNCES POLITICAL EXPLOITATION OF HOUSE LEADERSHIP DISPUTE

Date:

MONROVIA – The Liberty Party, through its Political Leader Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, has called for calm, respect for the rule of law, and a political settlement to end the leadership impasse at the House of Representatives that has gripped the country for nearly six months.

In a statement issued Monday, the party described the prolonged crisis as a major distraction to national governance at a time when President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration is striving to deliver basic services and rebuild Liberia’s damaged image on the global stage.

Highlighting the constitutional principle of three separate but coordinated branches of government, the Liberty Party warned that paralysis within one branch, as seen in the House of Representatives, threatens national development and undermines democratic coordination.

The party welcomed President Boakai’s acknowledgment of the Supreme Court’s recent decision on the matter, as well as the majority bloc’s filing of a motion for re-argument. It termed both actions as demonstrations of respect for the rule of law, an essential foundation for Liberia’s democracy.

In its statement, the Liberty Party appealed to all political actors and stakeholders to remain calm and allow the judicial process to reach a logical conclusion. It emphasized the need for both sides within the House to prioritize the interests of the Liberian people and to pursue mediation as the ultimate path to resolving the ongoing dispute.

Senator Karnga-Lawrence also strongly condemned any attempts to exploit the impasse for political gain, cautioning that such actions could further inflame an already delicate situation.
