NEC COMMERCES CIVIC EDUCATION FOR VOTERS’ REGISTRATION FOR 2023 ELECTIONS

Date:

LIBERIA – From 23rd  to the 25th of November, 2022 the NEC- Liberia in partnership with UNDP LESP, organized a BRIDGE modular training for 19 NEC staff and 6 Civil Society Organization members to discuss Voter Registration Principles.

Topics such as the Importance of a Voter Registration Process, Boundary Delimitation and Voter Registration, The Guiding Principles of Voter Registration (which include Sustainability, Accessibility, Inclusiveness, Cost-effectiveness, etc.), Timeline & Timeliness, Voter Registration System, Quality Assurance in Voter Registration, Registration Logistics, Importance of Stakeholders, Budgeting, Voter Roll Audit, amongst others.

Reaching out to as many citizens as may be possible, male and female, as well as persons with disabilities and all marginalized groups, is of utmost importance for the forthcoming Voter Registration Period.

The conduct of the NEC staff, all relevant stakeholders, CSOs and each individual citizen is of extreme importance in spreading the Voter Registration information to each community. The NEC and CSO representatives who attended the training committed themselves according to the basic principles they learned relating to Voter Registration in the execution of their respective duties, leading to 2023 Election.

BRIDGE is an acronym for Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections. Its curriculum is specifically focused on the conduct of various electoral processes, one of which is Voter Registration. Throughout the duration of the training, the BRIDGE facilitation methodology was utilized, an interactive adult learning approach, using group discussions, brainstorming, role play, question & answer period, etc. to assess the key understanding and learning outcomes from participants.

The NEC- Liberia is endeavoring to have a pool of BRIDGE facilitators at the National Elections Commission and other electoral stakeholders, such as CSOs, which will strengthen the human capacity in effective and efficient training. On this occasion, the three facilitators Mrs. Deddeh Mulbah Pusah, Mr. Isaac Q. Kollielon and Mr. Frederick W. Sonpon, acquired their BRIDGE Workshop Accreditation.

The NEC-Liberia Operations Department organized the workshop through its Training and Procedures Section, in collaboration with the UNDP Liberia Elections Support Project, with funding from the Swedish and Irish Governments.
