POWER OUTAGE DISRUPTS OPERATIONS AT ROBERTS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Date:

MARGIBI COUNTY, LIBERIA – A major power outage at Roberts International Airport (RIA) has left passengers in the dark, quite literally, as SN Brussels Airlines landed at the airport late Sunday evening, March 30, 2025. The lack of electricity left travelers using phone lights to claim their baggage, highlighting the ongoing power challenges at the airport. This disruption follows an ongoing series of power outages that have plagued the airport in recent months.

The Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) issued a statement on Sunday evening, confirming that the power disruption stemmed from an issue with the Liberia Electricity Corporation’s (LEC) power grid. According to the LAA, the incident occurred around 5:00 PM on Sunday and led to significant operational challenges at the airport’s terminals.

The LAA expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers, airport staff, and other stakeholders. “We deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused and sincerely apologize for the temporary disruption to normal airport operations,” the statement read. “We want to reassure the public that our team is working closely with LEC technicians to restore full power as swiftly and safely as possible.”

Efforts to resolve the issue are currently underway, but there has been no confirmation of when the power will be fully restored. The LAA has emphasized that it is doing everything possible to address the situation, while urging passengers and visitors to remain calm and patient during this challenging time.

“We understand the importance of reliable service at RIA and are fully committed to ensuring that this issue is resolved promptly,” the statement continued.
