PRESIDENT BOAKAI VOWS TO STRENGTHEN LIBERIA’S JUDICIARY, PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR JUDICIAL DEVELOPMENT

Date:

LIBERIA – During the dedication of the 14th Judicial Circuit Court Complex in Cestos City, River Cess County, on Monday, August 12, 2024, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai assured Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh and the Liberian people that the Executive Branch fully supports strengthening the judiciary. This response followed Chief Justice Yuoh’s concerns over the low budgetary allocation and underdevelopment of the court system across the country.

In his address, President Boakai emphasized his commitment to improving the judiciary, promising that the Executive Branch would work to ensure the proper structure of courts in every county. “The Executive Branch of Government fully shares Chief Justice Yuoh’s concern to strengthen the judiciary. I want to assure the citizens of Liberia that we will see to the structure of courts in each county,” he stated.

President Boakai also took the opportunity to clarify that there is no animosity between the Executive and Judicial branches. “The Executive Branch is fully on board with the Judicial Branch in the quest for responsibility, integrity, and adherence to the rule of law in the country,” he reassured, signaling strong cooperation between the branches of government in fostering a fair and efficient legal system.

Reflecting on his time as Liberia’s Vice President, Boakai mentioned that he observed a tendency among some people to expect others to act with integrity while failing to hold themselves to the same standard. However, he reiterated his belief that each Liberian plays a vital role in upholding the dignity of the nation. “One Liberian represents the dignity of all Liberians,” he said, underscoring the importance of collective responsibility in shaping the country’s future.

President Boakai expressed gratitude for the invitation to attend the dedication ceremony, highlighting the significance of the event for both the judiciary and the nation. The ceremony was attended by members of the diplomatic community, current and former government officials, as well as local citizens and stakeholders of River Cess County.

With the dedication of the 14th Judicial Circuit Court Complex, Liberia takes another step toward expanding its judicial infrastructure, and President Boakai’s commitment to supporting this development suggests a promising future for the country’s justice system.
