MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberian Senate has instructed its Committee on Public Corporations to investigate the worsening state of the Samuel Alfred Ross Port of Greenville following concerns raised by Sinoe County Senator Crayton Oldman Duncan.
Senator Duncan, in a formal communication on March 7, 2025, to Senate Plenary, called for the immediate summoning of the Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), Hon. Sekou Dukuly, to explain why the port remains in such poor condition despite its significant contributions to government revenue. The port serves as a key transit point for logging companies in Sinoe, Grand Gedeh, and Grand Kru counties, as well as Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL), the country’s largest oil palm producer.
“The Greenville Port is the third-highest revenue-generating port in Liberia, yet its condition is appalling. Given its importance to the national economy, we must demand answers and explore investment opportunities for its rehabilitation,” Duncan stated in his letter to Senate President Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence.
He further urged his colleagues to examine the possibility of engaging private sector investors through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) or Joint Ventures (JV) to modernize the port.
Following deliberations, the Senate directed its Committee on Public Corporations to probe the matter and report back by Thursday, March 20, 2025.
