MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Brewerville Magisterial Court has summoned Grand Cape Mount County Senator Simeon Taylor following accusations of assault, criminal coercion, and disorderly conduct leveled against him by Lena Hawa Magona. The allegations stem from an incident Magona claims took place at the senator’s Brewerville residence.
According to the complaint, Magona, the wife of Senator Taylor’s Chief of Staff, accused the senator of attempting to sexually assault her and directing his security personnel to physically attack her. She alleged that the senator’s actions included public humiliation and verbal abuse. “He insulted my dignity in the presence of others and ordered his guards to disgrace me after I sought an end to his mistreatment,” Magona stated.
Magona further claimed that her visit to the senator’s home was prompted by a desire to address ongoing issues of alleged harassment. Instead, she described being met with aggression and threats to her life. She now seeks legal recourse for the harm she says she has suffered, both physically and emotionally.
In response, Senator Taylor has categorically denied the allegations, calling them fabrications aimed at damaging his public image. “These accusations are completely unfounded. They are part of a political smear campaign orchestrated by my opponents,” Taylor remarked. He also revealed that he recently suspended Magona’s husband from his position as Chief of Staff, citing persistent disrespect from Magona as a contributing factor.
The senator claimed that Magona’s behavior, which he previously dismissed as harmless banter, is now being manipulated to undermine his credibility. “I have always treated this matter lightly, but it has clearly been weaponized against me,” he said, expressing confidence that the judicial process would vindicate him.
The court has scheduled a hearing for January 22, 2025, to address the allegations. While Magona is demanding justice for what she describes as severe mistreatment, Senator Taylor has vowed to clear his name and expose what he calls a politically motivated attack on his character.
