LIBERIA: GEORGE WEAH PRIVATE FM RADIO LAMBASTS GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS FOR BUYING OUT INDEPENDENT MEDIA

Date:

MONROVIA – President George Weah privately owned Kings FM Radio based in Monrovia, Liberia, has lambasted the Minister of Finance, Samuel D. Tweah and other public officials for buying out independent media in the country to “serve their private interest.”

On its morning called-in program on Wednesday, the host of the Kings FM 88.5 show exposed senior government officials in the Weah government including Finance Minister Samuel Tweah for allegedly buying out independent media in the country, while abandoning pro-government ones that helped the government got elected.

He added that most of the very people who used the radio platform propagate

The CDC party policies have refused to help the station, which he said is facing serious financial problems.

They are now in government; they are hiding from employees of the station and even refusing to answer our calls said the host of the program.

Several others officials were named who the station claimed benefited from the entity but are now failing to help.

Several callers on the show corroborated allegations of the radio; with some even divulging details of how some major daily newspapers editors and radio mangers are being paid monthly by these public officials to keep them quiet.

For fear of being exposed by the independent media, Minister Tweah and his cohorts have bought and placed some of the independent media on their payrolls”, other callers alleged.

As I speak, even the microphone I am using is scratched; our equipment are outdated with not a single government officials including the ones that used this very platform during the election period coming to our aide.

What have we done to these people, only paying independent media to cover up their criminal activities in government, while making the president’s radio to perish, the host said in frustration.

Other callers even blasted President George Weah himself for abandoning his own radio station and allegedly allowing some officials to ill-advise him.

The caller indicated that the Finance Minister was allegedly paying the independent media to avoid the publication of the unpublished US$25 Million mop up exercise scandal report, alleging government bought SUVs cars for some newspaper editors and radio managers, promising to release the list from the ministry of Finance in subsequent time.

This latest revelation confirmed long held views in many quarters in the country that Government was paying the independent media to stop them from exposing the many excesses it is carrying out.

None of those accused during the show could be reached for comment.
