MONROVIA – In a surprising turn of events, Mulbah K. Morlu, Jr., the Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), has officially tendered his resignation, citing his desire to focus on advocating for social justice and championing the interests of marginalized communities.
In a heartfelt letter addressed to George M. Weah, the Standard-bearer of the CDC, Morlu expressed his commitment to the party while stepping down from his position as Chairman.
During his six-year tenure as Chairman, Morlu faced numerous challenges, but he maintained a steadfast commitment to the CDC and its members. In his resignation letter, he emphasized his deep love for the party and expressed immense gratitude towards the loyal partisans, young militants, and foot soldiers who supported him.
Morlu acknowledged that the diminishing opportunity to effectively fulfill his role as the People’s Chairman influenced his decision. As an advocate for the people, he found it disheartening to encounter constraints that limited his ability to carry out his responsibilities.
However, despite resigning from the chairmanship, Morlu remains positive and committed to contributing to the peace and stability of the CDC.
As the longest-serving Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change, Morlu expressed his humility and gratitude for the overwhelming support he received from dedicated partisans across various demographics and locations. He attributed this support to a long period of stability, peace, and adherence to the rule of law within the CDC.
Morlu also acknowledged occasional disagreements with George M. Weah, driven solely by his principles and love for the party. Despite these hurdles, he highlighted the remarkable progress they had made together, solidifying the CDC as a potent political mechanism of redemption.
With his newfound freedom, Morlu intends to advocate for social justice and champion the interests of marginalized communities, irrespective of political affiliations. He plans to engage in consultations with relevant stakeholders to rally passionate individuals and safeguard democracy, promote good governance, and uphold the rule of law.
While Morlu trusts that the CDC will continue its efforts to address injustices and hold the Unity Party-led government accountable, he is committed to contributing from a civil society perspective. His focus will be on advocating for peace, good governance, human rights, the rule of law, and socio-economic equality for all Liberians.
In his resignation letter, Morlu also advised the party’s leadership on the importance of assembling a proficient team of foreign policy experts to engage with key Western capitals and rebuild confidence with international partners. He stressed the significance of strengthening ties with the United States and its European counterparts, considering Liberia’s strategic significance within the U.S.’s sphere of influence.
