VICE PRESIDENT KOUNG CALLS FOR STRONGER EFFORTS TO PRESERVE LIBERIA’S CULTURAL HERITAGE

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung has underscored the importance of preserving Liberia’s cultural heritage, describing it as a fundamental cornerstone of the nation’s identity and progress.

Speaking at the official unveiling of the Arts and Culture Galleries at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism on Thursday, February 6, 2025, the Vice President stressed that Liberia’s cultural traditions must not be overlooked. He called for collective efforts to safeguard and promote the country’s rich heritage, emphasizing the need to integrate cultural education into school curricula to instill a sense of pride in future generations.

Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah highlighted the significance of the new galleries, describing them as a major step toward revitalizing Liberia’s cultural and artistic sectors, which have often been neglected. He called for sustained government support not only for this initiative but also for the reactivation of the National Culture Center of Liberia, which he said is crucial to preserving the country’s traditions and historical identity.

According to Minister Piah, the unveiling of the Arts and Culture Galleries represents a milestone in Liberia’s efforts to celebrate and protect its cultural history while also recognizing tourism’s potential to drive economic growth and foster national pride.

Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon, who chairs the Senate’s Committee on Information, Broadcasting, and Tourism, reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to supporting increased funding for the tourism sector.

The event was attended by members of the legislature, cabinet ministers, presidential advisors, and ambassadors, highlighting broad government and diplomatic support for strengthening Liberia’s cultural sector.
