MONROVIA – Margibi County Senator Nathaniel F. McGill has formally appealed to the University of Liberia administration to extend the current registration period by at least two weeks, citing financial and logistical challenges faced by a significant portion of the student body.
In a letter addressed to University of Liberia President Dr. Layli Maparyan on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Senator McGill, writing as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and Public Administration, emphasized that the request was made on behalf of the University of Liberia Student’s Union (ULSU) and pursuant to the mandate of Senate leadership.
“The Committee has received several representations from the student body indicating that a significant number of students are currently constrained by financial and logistical challenges that have hampered their ability to complete the ongoing registration process within the stipulated timeframe,” Senator McGill wrote. He requested that the university grant an extension of at least two weeks to ensure that all students have adequate opportunity to regularize their status and fully participate in the semester’s academic activities.
In addition to the registration appeal, the Senator’s committee requested that the university submit its draft budget for the current academic year. The submission, he noted, will enable the committee to review proposed allocations, provide constructive input, and advocate for increased funding to support the university’s mission and enhance the quality of education for all students.
The letter concluded with a call for urgent attention and constructive engagement from the University of Liberia administration, with a copy of the communication from the students’ leadership attached for reference. “The committee trusts your urgent attention to this appeal and remains available for constructive engagement in support of the University,” Senator McGill said.
