MONROVIA – Administrative and support staff assigned to the Office of the Dean at the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Liberia, participated in a one-day intensive refresher workshop on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. The training, held at the Thelma E. Duncan Sawyer Faculty Lounge in Fendall, ran from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The session was designed to strengthen staff capacity by equipping participants with the tools, knowledge, and confidence necessary to navigate academic policies and procedures. Organizers said the training was aimed at enhancing efficiency, productivity, and professional skills critical to the smooth functioning of the Dean’s Office.
During the exercise, staff were guided on how to effectively follow institutional procedures, observe best practices, and update their knowledge of record-keeping and reporting channels. The program also focused on building their understanding of the University’s policies, including course loads, faculty assignments, instructional analysis, and employment recommendations.
Facilitators included Associate Professor Dr. Josephus M. Gray, Dean of the College; Assistant Professor Cllr. Mark Bedor-Wla Freeman of the Department of English and Language Studies; Assistant Professor Richmond S. Anderson, Chairman of the Department of Political Science; Mr. Charles Crawford, adjunct faculty of Political Science; Mr. Yash Verma, Assistant Manager of International Relations at Sharda University in India; and Rev. Harris of the University’s Counseling Department.
The trainers engaged participants through simulated activities designed to reinforce responsibility, adaptability, and the application of updated best practices. Each participant was allotted 10 minutes to discuss their terms of reference, share workplace experiences, and highlight challenges encountered in the performance of their duties.
At the close of the workshop, participants expressed that they had gained fresh perspectives, broader knowledge of institutional policies, and practical insights into their roles within the college. The session was described as an empowering initiative that will help improve teamwork and ensure that the Dean’s Office continues to deliver effectively in support of the College’s mission.
