LIBERIA: RESIDENTS OF 3-DISTRICT IN GRAND KRU IN DIRE NEED OF SAFE & CLEAN DRINKING WATER

Want county sitting to prioritize WASH safe in county’s budget

As Grand Kru County prepares for its county sitting, inhabitants of Buah Jloh and Trench Districts are reported to be in dire need of safe and clean drinking water.

Towns within the three districts that are facing difficulties due to the lack of safe and clean drinking water, include Dayoken Wlorki amongst others.

“We have to work distance to fetch unsafe water from nearby creeks in our respective community,” They indicated”

Residents informed the WASH media, most of their children are sent homes because they are late for school, while in search of water.

“This is frustrating and embarrassing for us as women, especially lactating mothers, “a female resident said”,

The inhabitants revealed that their children are always late for school due to the search for water.

They indicated that most of the communities have only one hand pump, while some of the pumps are not functioning.

Inhabitants of the three districts are calling for water, sanitation and Hygiene to be placed in the county budget as the county is scheduled to meet for county sitting.

For their part, residents of Trench District are calling companies operating in the area to make good their social corporate responsibility to the district.

The inhabitants revealed that it is compulsory for these companies to actualize their part of the bargaining.

Towns affected due to the lack of safe drinking water in Jloh District are Dayoken Tarwoken and Wlorki.

For a protracted period now most rural communities, in fact, in the capital city, Monrovia has been experiencing the crisis of safe and clean water in their various communities.

Due to this, the Foundation For the Empowerment of Rural Dwellers (FERD) has embarked on its WASH Grass Roots Advocacy with the aim of educating rural inhabitants about their right to safe and clean drinking water.

The project is supported by WaterAid- Liberia to assist rural dwellers to get access to safe drinking water.
