LIBERIA’S LARGEST PUBLIC HOSPITAL HOLDS PATIENT HOSTAGE FOR NOT PAYING BILLS

Date:

LIBERIA – The management of the John F. Kennedy Hospital in Monrovia has been accused of holding one of its several patients’ hostage.

Mr. Fred Nyenpan, the husband of the 35-year-old woman made the disclosure recently when he appeared on a local radio.

Mr. Nyenpan made an appeal to the public and the international community to help him release his wife from the hospital.

He explained that his wife was very sick when he took her to the government hospital named after former US President, John F. Kennedy.

According to him she got well but alleged the management of the hospital is refusing to let her go home because he cannot afford to pay the cost of the treatment.

“I am appealing to the public, the international community, and all humanitarians to help me pay the US$110 which I owe the hospital.”

Mr. Nyenpan said it has been a few days since my wife got healed, but she’s being held simply because I am unable to meet the cost of the treatment, he sorrowfully said.

The hospital is the largest public hospital in Liberia.

Efforts by Smart News Liberia to talk to the management of the hospital failed after several attempts.

But a few sources at JFK have disclosed that this was not the first time such was happening at the hospital.

They said there are instances where patients were held for several days against their will for a similar situation.
