U.S. ANTI-CORRUPTION KINGPINS EXPECTED IN LIBERIA SOON – POISED TO MEET WITH CIVIL SOCIETY, MEDIA, OTHERS

Date:

MONROVIA – Two anti-corruption gurus of the United States, U.S. Global Anti-Corruption Coordinator,  Richard Nephew, and USAID Anti-Corruption Task Force Executive Director, Shannon Green, are poised to arrive in Liberia shortly for a visit, the U.S. Embassy near Monrovia, has announced.

The pair is expected in Liberia on 13 March, and will stay in the country up to 15 March, for a visit that a statement issued by the U.S. Embassy and released to the press on Thursday, indicated will underscore the U.S. government’s commitment to anti-corruption and good governance through the newly released U.S. Strategy on Countering Corruption.

The Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption position integrates and elevates the fight against corruption across all aspects of U.S. diplomacy and foreign assistance.

The Executive Director of USAID’s Anti-Corruption Task Force (ACTF) leads USAID’s implementation of the U.S. Strategy on Countering Corruption.

Both men, while in Liberia, are scheduled to meet with representatives from Liberian integrity institutions, civil society organizations, media, and the Liberian legislature.

United States President Joe Biden has made preventing and countering corruption and demonstrating the advantages of transparent and accountable governance a top priority of his administration, the U.S. Embassy statement noted.
