Over the past few days, speculations continue to emerge in the public space about Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine is a possible choice to serve as running mate to Mr. Alexander Cummings of the Alternative National Congress.
Although Madam Brumskine has not yet publicly thrown her hat into vying for any public office, we are reliably informed that she’s poised to contest for a seat in the 2023 Representatives elections in Grand Bassa County. If she does contest, Charlyne is likely to amass an impressive war chest in her bid for the District 3 Representative Seat in her home County and this will be largely attributed to her powerful political last name as well as her personal interventions in the County.
Since the passing of her father, Counselor Charles Walker Brumskine, the Liberty Party has been engulfed with an entrenched leadership Crisis that led to the party being divided into two factions. As we fast approach the 2023 polls, Madam Brumskine seems to be on a mission to serve as an ambassador and protector of her father’s legacy and to also contribute to national development as a consummate and well-accomplished lawyer. However, Charlyne would have to work harder in honoring her father by actively getting into Politics to preserve his legacy(LIBERTY PARTY).
WILL THE DAUGHTER MEASURE UP TO HER FATHER’S LEGACY?
This question can only be answered with a resounding yes! It is no secret that Charlyne carries the DNA of her late father and is fully equipped to follow in her father’s footsteps in national politics. As she takes a leap into national politics, Madam Brumskine will be judged on both her father’s record as well as her own merits.
There is no doubt that the brand ‘ BRUMSKINE’ has more political dividends than negative connotations. Meanwhile, let us point out very emphatically that restoring the image of the Liberty Party would come at a high cost with demanding challenges that Charlyne would need the support of some key stakeholders in the party but largely, the support of the people of Bassa to protect what their son Brumskine fought to establish. On this mission, whether the daughter will fulfill the father’s wishes or legacies, the people of Bassa would have to stand by her in this quest.

The Name Brumskine has become a reputable brand name and an asset that comes with immense political dividends that could well pay off for a Cummings+Brumskine ticket. The name Brumskine has more positive political capital than negative connotations. The recognition that comes with a powerful family brand name can not be underestimated in a political process. The legacy of the fallen Counselor will continue to pay dividends for not just Charlyne, but the next generations of Brumskine.
Additionally, madam Brumskine is likely to use her father’s name as a coattail to boost her ability to raise money and build support from backers and supporters of her father, both at home and abroad. Charlyne is a competent lawyer with vast experience in politics as well as an in-depth understanding of the excruciating socioeconomic problems facing our nation. Charlyne has all it takes to hold the even highest public office in Liberia, but all she would need is for her to become much more visible on the national scene where the ordinary Liberians across the country would hear her speak about national issues regularly.
Can the Presence of Charlyn revive the Liberty Party?
Well, to restore the image of the LP, Madam Brumskine would have to engage in a very strategic political networking within her father’s party and Grand Bassa County thus giving her multiple tasks of embracing her father’s political legacies while forging her own political future on the national scene as we hit horizon to 2023.
