MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Musa Bility, political leader of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), has defended his party’s decision to concede defeat in the April 22, 2025, Nimba County by-election, calling it a reflection of political maturity and principled leadership. In a strongly worded statement titled “Reality, Responsibility, and the CMC Standard,” Bility addressed backlash from segments of the opposition who questioned the CMC’s prompt recognition of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR)’s victory.
He emphasized that the CMC refuses to engage in politics driven by misinformation or partisan theatrics. “We won’t make something wrong just to score political points,” he said. Acknowledging the legitimacy of the results, Bility maintained there were no irregularities significant enough to affect the outcome and noted that conceding was a matter of integrity.
Taking aim at critics, Bility accused them of selective outrage, pointing out their silence when opposition lawmakers aligned with the ruling Unity Party to shake up the House of Representatives. “Their silence then makes their outrage now sound hollow,” he argued.
Bility warned that the same individuals might applaud future collaboration with the regime under the guise of patriotism, exposing what he described as glaring inconsistencies and hypocrisy.
Reaffirming the CMC’s identity as a principled political force, Bility concluded, “We remain committed to rebuilding, redeeming, and rising on our terms, with truth and conviction.”
