CALLING FOR WEAH RESIGNATION ON THE EVE OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IS UNDEMOCRATIC, SAYS POLITICAL COMMENTATOR

Date:

A Liberian Political commentator, J. Kgybnou Peah says calling for President George Weah to leave on the eve of the 2023 election is undemocratic and doesn’t serve the country’s best interest.

In a statement sent to Smart News, Mr. Peah who resides in the United States of America notes that such calls are disruptive to the post-war democratic sojourn the country continues to endure.

Mr. Peah’s statement is an apparent reference to calls by some Liberians for the President to step down for alleged corruption. He states that an uninterrupted transfer of power would cement 20 years of the strength of Liberia’s democracy in 2023 when another election is held.

“We should pause, be calmed, and reflect on the progress we have made since post-war and be cautious and endue the patience it requires to keep our democracy uninterrupted and propel the country to the ballot box in 2023 where the will of the people will make the decision on national governance”, he said in the communication to Smart News.
