NIMBA COUNTY – The Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) has publicly conceded that Representative Samuel Kogar is in a commanding lead in the Nimba County Senatorial By-election, describing his position as “unassailable” based on data gathered from its internal monitoring operation.
In a statement issued Monday, April 21, 2025, CMC Political Leader Hon. Musa Hassan Bility acknowledged the overwhelming support shown to Kogar, the candidate of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), who was backed by the ruling Unity Party alliance. While awaiting the official results from the National Elections Commission (NEC), the CMC extended what it called a respectful and dignified congratulations to both Kogar and the Unity Party-led coalition for what it believes is a decisive victory.
“While we hoped the people would have made a different choice, we fully respect their democratic right to choose,” Bility said. “Despite the harsh realities faced by many of our people, poverty, poor infrastructure, and lack of opportunity, they have kept faith with the current leadership.”
Bility emphasized that the outcome should serve as a call to action for the victors, urging them not to take the people’s trust for granted and to deliver tangible and lasting development in return.
Reflecting on the campaign, the CMC leader noted the odds his party faced, running against what he described as two powerful political forces, one buoyed by the sitting government and the other aligned with Liberia’s most influential former leaders. “That, in itself, is a victory,” he remarked, expressing pride in the party’s campaign message and resilience throughout the electoral period.
Bility also lauded the people of Nimba for what he called their political maturity and civility, asserting that the county had set an example for peaceful democratic engagement. “We have proven that we are politically mature, respectful, and ready to lead,” he added.
The statement ended with praise for the NEC’s handling of the process, calling the commission “credible custodians of our democracy” and encouraging continued transparency in the official tabulation and announcement of results.
Bility assured supporters that the CMC’s political journey does not end with this by-election defeat. “This is not the end for CMC, it is only the beginning,” he declared. “We remain steadfast in our mission to redeem and rebuild Liberia, brick by brick, community by community.”
