MONROVIA – The Executive Protection Service (EPS) has issued a strong warning that it will withdraw security protection from any high-ranking government official or VIP under its coverage who publicly promotes political insurrection or violent protests against the Government of Liberia.
In a statement released on April 30, 2025, by the office of EPS Director Sam Gaye, the agency said it has taken note of recent inflammatory remarks by certain officials that it described as dangerous and a threat to national peace and order. The EPS emphasized that such public utterances amount to incitement and are inconsistent with the laws governing public conduct in Liberia.
According to the EPS, its primary mandate is to protect the President, Vice President, their immediate families, visiting foreign dignitaries, and other senior officials as designated by the President. That mandate, the statement added, is grounded in the agency’s constitutional duty to safeguard the peace, stability, and security of the Liberian state.
The agency warned that any protectee who engages in or incites rebellion or violence against the sitting government will forfeit the privilege of EPS security. It stressed that such conduct not only violates the law but also undermines the very essence of the institution’s purpose.
While reiterating its commitment to impartial and professional service, the EPS made it clear that its operations will not be used to shield individuals who actively work to destabilize the country. The agency highlighted its role in upholding constitutional order and warned that it will take appropriate action in line with its responsibilities.
