GTBANK DENIES RESPONSIBILITY FOR CIVIL SERVANT SALARY DELAYS, CITES NON-RECEIPT OF FUNDS

MONROVIA – Guaranty Trust Bank Liberia Limited has firmly rejected claims linking it to ongoing delays in the payment of civil servant salaries, clarifying that the bank has not received the required funds to process the payments.

In an official statement issued on Thursday, March 26, 2026, to address growing public concern, the bank described recent reports circulating in sections of the media as “inaccurate and misleading.” The clarification comes amid mounting frustration among government employees who have yet to receive their salaries.

“We would like to categorically state that these claims are inaccurate and misleading,” the bank emphasized, distancing itself from allegations that it is responsible for the delay.

According to GTBank Liberia, the core issue lies not within its operations but in the absence of funds necessary to initiate salary disbursements. “The Bank confirms that, as of this time, the funds for the referenced civil servant salary payments have not been received through the appropriate clearing channels for disbursement,” the statement noted.

The bank further explained that without the receipt of cleared funds from the relevant government authorities, it is unable to process or credit salaries to beneficiaries’ accounts. This clarification shifts attention to the upstream stages of the payment process, particularly the role of institutions responsible for releasing and clearing public funds.

Despite the controversy, GTBank Liberia reaffirmed its readiness to act swiftly once the funds are made available. “GTBank Liberia remains fully committed to executing all salary payments promptly and efficiently immediately upon receipt of duly cleared funds from the relevant authorities,” the statement added.

The bank also urged the public and its customers to rely on verified information rather than speculation. “We kindly urge the public and our valued customers to disregard the misinformation being circulated and to rely on verified updates from official Bank communication channels,” it said.

The statement underscores broader concerns about transparency and accountability in Liberia’s public financial management system, especially when delays in salary payments often trigger public anxiety and speculation.

GTBank Liberia concluded by reaffirming its institutional values, stating that it “continues to uphold the highest standards of transparency, professionalism, and service delivery.”
