LIBERIA: ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES PARALYSED AT GOVERNMENT-RUN UNIVERSITY

Date:

MONROVIA – Regular academic activities at the government-run University of Liberia on Capitol Hill yesterday paralyzed went a scene of stones throwing between Representative Acarous Moses Gray’s men and the University’s Vanguard Student Unification Party got bitter.

The stones throwing later turned bloody. Some students got injured – and allegedly led to death.

The University campus for a couple of days has been insecure as SUP opposed and chased out of the campus members of President Weah’s administration who are allegedly involved in stealing public money.

Recently, three members of the Weah administration including Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, former Solicitor General Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus and Aloysius Howe were chased out of the campus of the University by the campus-based political party, SUP for their alleged involvement in corrupt activity.

Gray, Montserrado County District 8 Representative and a member of President Weah’s ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), believed SUP’s action against Weah’s alleged corruption officials was unnecessary prompted him (Rep. Gray) to have posted on his Facebook page last weekend saying, “Monday on March 13 by 12:30 pm General Hon Acarous Moses Gray and Rep. Seboe will have lunch at the Student Center with my students attending the University of Liberia. You are invited guys.

“You can take a drink on me.”

Rep. Gray’s post was not taken lightly and also was seen as a threat by the Vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP) for which SUP called a mass rally to oppose Gray’s visit to the University. See below SUP’s mandate on Thursday, March 9, 2023.

The Vanguard Student Unification Party uses this wavelength to decisively respond to the threat absurdities of Representatives Gray and Seboe of the puppet and gangster enterprise of the CDC of violently invading the Capitol Hill Campus of the University of Liberia and spatter harms on university students in the name of crude showmanship and nauseating arrogance that anything if any student gets injured on the instructions of both Gray and Seboe, they will be held reliable and made to pay dearly by the Vanguard Student Unification.

Also, SUP wants to bring this unsolicited provocation to the attention of the International Community, Civil Society, Religious Community, the Liberia National Police, the leadership of the Legislature, and the University of Liberia authority to make them understand the masterminds behind the violence incitements on the campus of the university. We want to also register with the above-mentioned institutions regarding the increasing waves of death threats on the lives of its leaders and the consistent tailings of members of the leadership especially leaders of the Politburo of the Party by terrible assassins of the CDC government. Our lives are in the hands of the Weah CDC regime.

The Vanguard Party wants to unequivocally say here that, as Gray and Seboe are planning to come to the university campus in a combative fashion, we are conversely planning too to visit their Capitol Building’s offices with thousands of university students to share coffee with them in the coming days.

This exercise will be done in a demonstration, that going forward, and never again students will cow into cowardice to the unwarranted and reckless threats and violent outbursts of people based on their positions in government have the right to brutalize student leaders because of their progressive resentment of their evil maneuvering in state service. Never! And going forward, anyone who dares to walk this line will be resisted by a determined and conscious student body ever~ready and prepared to defend themselves as outlined in the constitution and the law of self-defense.

Notwithstanding, the Revolutionary Vanguard Student Unification Party resoundingly objects to the illegal and politically fueled suspension of Cde. Prince B. Gbaryu without investigation and due process as provided for in the revised students’ handbook. This is a clear academic witch-hunting being squarely engineered by Mr. George Weah and will meet the fiercest resistance from the university students. Weah and Nelson are playing with fire! Don’t blame us tomorrow!

Moreover, SUP wants to make it well known here that the University of Liberia’s authority is chiefly responsible for the consistent invasions of the university and brutalization of students and vandalization of the university’s properties. Fellow compatriots, it will interest you to note with keen attention that since the ascendancy of Mr. Julius Nelson to the presidency of the University of Liberia, the CDC has invaded and inflicted heinous casualties on peaceful students with literally nothing being said or done to have these people stopped.

Again, this is because of the way partisan President Nelson has politicized the academic activities of the university, running the nation’s premier institution of higher learning as an auxiliary group to the CDC government. We want to caution the pastor of doom President Nelson to desist from running the university on CDC mandate and ill academic instructions from minions of the government.

We can promise this president that we can only have a peaceful university when rotten characters and defected elements of both this regime and the past can stop parroting the premises of the university in utter arrogance in the contestation of the ever-scintillating dominance of the Vanguard Party.

Finally, the leadership of the Vanguard Student Unification Party with immediate effect recalls Cde. Augustine F. Taylor as Membership Chair and lifts the suspension of Cde. Alvin M. Koffa. The leadership of the party also mandates the Chair on Membership, Cde. Augustine Taylor, Chair of Information, Press and Propaganda, Cde. Mohammed S. Jalloh, and the Chair of the Militant  Brigade Cde. Sylvester Wheeler to lead the charge in ensuring that Monday is a chronicle.

SUP is also calling on all progressive forces, disenchanted masses, and all well-meaning Liberians who are sick and tired of the misrule, economic failure, bad governance, secret killings, and all forms of malfeasance of the rotten CDC regime to join ranks with the Vanguard Student Unification Party for the popular Citizen Rally on Monday, March 13, 2023, at the University of Liberia Capitol Hill Campus.
