LIBERIA NATIONAL POLICE AND MOROCCO SIGN SECURITY COOPERATION AGREEMENT

By Our Reporter | Smart News Liberia

MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security aimed at strengthening security cooperation and enhancing international law enforcement collaboration between the two countries.

The agreement signed on Monday, May 18, 2026, marks a major step in deepening bilateral relations between the Republic of Liberia and the Kingdom of Morocco, while creating a framework for joint efforts to combat transnational crimes and emerging global security threats. Officials say the partnership will focus on tackling terrorism, cybercrime, human trafficking, financial crimes, and other cross-border criminal activities increasingly affecting nations worldwide.

According to the agreement, both institutions will cooperate in several critical security areas, including intelligence and information sharing, border security and migration management, cybersecurity, forensic science, criminal investigations, and public order management. The partnership will also support specialized police training, tactical operations, drone technology, and modern surveillance systems.

The memorandum further provides for professional exchanges and joint operational coordination intended to strengthen institutional capacity and improve operational readiness within the Liberia National Police. Authorities believe the cooperation will help align Liberia’s policing standards with international best practices.

Speaking on the significance of the agreement, Inspector General of Police Gregory O.W. Coleman described the partnership as a strategic move toward modernizing Liberia’s security sector and improving the country’s ability to respond to evolving security threats.

Inspector General Coleman noted that modern criminal activities and security challenges often extend beyond national borders, making international cooperation essential in combating organized crime and maintaining regional stability.

“This cooperation framework reflects the Liberia National Police’s continued commitment to modernization, professional excellence, and international collaboration in addressing evolving security challenges affecting both our region and the global community,” Coleman stated.

The Liberia National Police emphasized that the Memorandum of Understanding is a non-binding cooperation instrument that fully respects the sovereignty, constitutional frameworks, and national laws of both Liberia and Morocco. Authorities also stressed that the agreement is intended to strengthen institutional collaboration without undermining the independence of either country.

The police administration expressed appreciation to Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the Government of Liberia, and the Liberian Embassy near Rabat for supporting efforts aimed at expanding Liberia’s international security partnerships. The LNP also thanked Moroccan authorities for their commitment to advancing professional cooperation and promoting regional and international peace and security.

Following the signing ceremony, Inspector General Coleman disclosed on his official Facebook page that the agreement represents an important milestone in strengthening law enforcement cooperation between Liberia and Morocco. He added that the partnership will contribute to institutional modernization, enhanced public safety, investor confidence, and national stability as the Liberia National Police continues efforts to build a modern, accountable, and internationally connected police service.
