MONROVIA – The Liberian People’s Party (LPP) has formally congratulated Mr. Jonathan K. Weedor on his appointment as Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), describing him as the most suitable candidate to lead Liberia’s electoral process at a time of heightened scrutiny.
In a press release issued on April 8, 2026, from its Capitol Bye Pass headquarters in Monrovia, the LPP noted that Mr. Weedor’s nomination followed the resignation of Madam Davidetta Brown-Lassanah and was confirmed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on March 30, 2026. The party highlighted that the NEC faces growing demands for transparency, improved technology, and faster election result announcements.
“The LPP is convinced that Mr. Jonathan Weedor is an apolitical figure with a track record of exceptional integrity and professionalism,” the statement said. “His extensive experience in election administration positions him uniquely to address and rectify the challenges faced by Liberia’s electoral process.”
The party expressed optimism that under Weedor’s leadership, initiatives will be implemented to restore voter confidence, enhance the integrity of the voter register, and effectively use technology to streamline elections. “We offer Mr. Weedor the benefit of the doubt,” the LPP noted, “and expect that upon confirmation by the Liberian Senate, he will embark on a series of electoral reforms aimed at fortifying Liberia’s democracy.”
The LPP emphasized that Weedor’s primary loyalty must lie with the Liberian people, reminding him that his role carries substantial responsibility. “This appointment is more than just a role; it is an opportunity to leave an indelible mark on the nation’s electoral landscape by restoring public trust and confidence,” the release stated.
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, the LPP stressed that Weedor has both the opportunity to build a celebrated legacy and the risk of facing criticism if expectations are not met. “His decisions will shape the electoral landscape for years to come and will play a crucial role in defining the essence of democracy in Liberia,” the statement said.
The party also highlighted Weedor’s commendable record of integrity and academic achievement, noting that his background in managing electoral systems equips him to navigate the complex dynamics of electoral administration. “While his qualifications are impressive, the true measure of success will depend on his willingness to take decisive action in the face of challenges,” the LPP said.
Expressing continued support, the party extended heartfelt congratulations and prayers for divine wisdom, strength, and resilience as Weedor undertakes his responsibilities. “The LPP is committed to collaborating with him within the framework of the law to ensure that the NEC operates as one of the foremost Election Management Bodies globally,” the statement emphasized.
The LPP concluded with a call for national unity and commitment to transparent governance: “Government is a place to serve, not to steal. A better Liberia is possible,” it said, reiterating the party’s dedication to fair and credible electoral processes.
