NEC ASSURES PEACEFUL NIMBA BY-ELECTION AS CANDIDATES SIGN FRD

Date:

MONROVIA – The National Elections Commission (NEC) has pledged a violence-free by-election in Nimba County, scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025. The assurance comes after all seven candidates contesting the seat formally signed the Farmington River Declaration (FRD), reaffirming their commitment to peaceful campaigning.

The signing ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 16, in Ganta City during a two-day dialogue organized by the Inter-Party Consultative Committee. The event brought together political actors and electoral stakeholders to promote tolerance and non-violence ahead of the crucial vote.

According to NEC, the candidates’ endorsement of the FRD signals a united stance against electoral violence and a shared resolve to uphold democratic values. The Commission noted that the declaration, originally established in 2023, continues to serve as a vital instrument for fostering credible and peaceful elections in Liberia.

NEC officials expressed optimism that the political actors’ commitment would translate into a safe environment for voters, campaign teams, and electoral workers. The two-day dialogue concludes today, with NEC calling on all parties to maintain the spirit of peace as election day approaches.
