SUPREME COURT TO RULE ON HOUSE LEADERSHIP CRISIS APRIL 23

Date:

MONROVIA – The Supreme Court of Liberia has scheduled April 23, 2025, at 12:00 noon to deliver its much-anticipated verdict in the Bill of Information case filed by embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa against the self-declared Majority Bloc, led by Representative Richard N. Koon.

This landmark ruling is expected to decide the constitutional legitimacy of the House leadership, a dispute that has fractured the 55th Legislature and intensified political tensions within the country. The political destinies of both Koffa and Koon now hang in the balance, with the Court’s judgment poised to determine who holds rightful authority as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The formal notice, signed by the Clerk of the Supreme Court and addressed to Brigadier General Amos B. Kesseh Dickson, Sr., Marshal of the Court, instructs that all parties or their legal representatives be present when the ruling is delivered.

The case, formally styled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and Members of the House of Representatives of the 55th Legislature versus Representative Richard N. Koon, Purported Speaker, and Others, stems from a bitter leadership tussle that has sparked national debate over constitutional order, legislative legitimacy, and the rule of law.
