OPPOSITION UNITY PARTY ACCUSES GOVERNMENT OF BURNING CHAIRMAN’S HOME

Date:

LIBERIA – The former ruling Unity Party has accused the George Weah Government of being behind the burning of the Home of their Chairman, Rev. Luther Tarpwh. Read the unedited Press Release from the party below.

Reported Government-hired arsonists attacked Unity Party Chairman’s home, days, after armed men believed to be agents of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change, tailed the vehicle of the Chairman and Party executives to identify the locations of their homes.

Paynesville-Liberia, August 12, 2022: Unity Party has learned with great despair a well-planned and orchestrated attack against the home of its Chairman Dr. Luther Tarpeh early Thursday morning at about 1:00 Am in Paynesville.

The attackers believed to be operatives of the government of Liberia threw several petro bombs during the early hours of August 12, 2022, into the fence of Chairman Luther Tarpeh which is believed to have led to the fire.

One of the houses and a Mitsubishi SUV in the fence got burned to ashes as a result of the arson.

One of Chairman Tarpeh’s sons is currently taking treatment due to a severe burn. Other family members are so far safe.

The Party is in the process of submitting a formal complaint of several targeted attacks against its leaders by operatives of the ruling party.

The Unity Party feared democratic gains made during her stewardship of Liberia have significantly retrogressed under the CDC -led government,  as the bad memory of Liberia’s dark days is again surfacing, where opposition leaders and critical voices in the country are constantly harassed, humiliated, and in some instances found dead with no outcomes of government announced investigations.

While the party calls on it partisans and the Liberian populace to remain calm as further investigations are underway, Unity Party wants to reiterate that it will not condone unwarranted and senseless attacks against its leaders, partisans, and the people of Liberia as we move forward to the 2023 Legislative and presidential elections.

The Unity Party calls on all its Partisans, supporters, and Liberians at large to be vigilant, and calm as the party is committed to providing responsible, peaceful, and democratic leadership for all Liberians.

However, efforts were made by Smart News to get the side of the Government.
