MONROVIA – Senior officials of the ruling Unity Party (UP) paid a visit to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) today, delivering a formal communication urging the agency to broaden its scope in tackling corruption. The party’s intervention highlights growing concerns over the need for impartiality and inclusivity in anti-graft efforts.
The delegation, led by Unity Party Vice Chairperson Senator Daba Varpilah, comprised key figures such as former UP Secretary-General Mo Ali, Cornelia Kruah-Togba, Youth Chairperson Melvin Cephas, Vice Chair for Mobilization Whroway Bryant, and other high-ranking party members. Their presence highlighted the party’s intent to ensure that the fight against corruption remains comprehensive and does not selectively target individuals or institutions.
Speaking after submitting the communication, Mo Ali emphasized that while the Unity Party welcomes the LACC’s recent crackdown on financial mismanagement, ongoing cases involving the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) and the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) must also be prioritized. He stressed that the fight against corruption must not be one-sided but instead extend across all sectors of government.
The LACC has recently intensified its efforts to investigate allegations of corruption within state institutions, drawing both praise and criticism over its handling of high-profile cases. With public confidence in the government’s anti-corruption agenda at stake, the Unity Party’s call for broader scrutiny signals an effort to hold all institutions accountable, regardless of political affiliations.
