MONROVIA – The Unity Party’s Montserrado Youth Congress has come out strongly against recent comments made by Atty. Teklo Maxwell Grigsby II, in which he distanced himself from the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Youth Empowerment Project, a key initiative under the Unity Party-led government. In a press release issued on March 19, 2025, the Youth Congress expressed disappointment over Grigsby’s remarks during his March 17 appearance on the OK FM show hosted by Julius Jeh, where he stated that he would not participate in the project if it was perceived as an initiative of the Unity Party.
The Youth Congress accused Atty. Grigsby of undermining the government’s efforts to support youth empowerment, questioning his sincerity in advocating for the youth of Monserrado County. The release pointed out that Grigsby’s rejection of the initiative, simply because of its affiliation with the Unity Party, reveals a lack of commitment to the very youth he claims to champion. The Youth Congress emphasized that youth empowerment should transcend partisan lines and called out Grigsby for positioning himself against a program aimed at benefiting all young people, regardless of political affiliation.
In its statement, the Unity Party Youth Congress also reminded the public that while many of its members were actively engaged in advocating for youth during the campaign, Grigsby’s involvement was notably absent until after the Unity Party secured power. This, the Youth Congress argued, raises doubts about Grigsby’s true intentions and his dedication to advancing the interests of young people in the county.
The press release concluded by urging young people in Monserrado County to continue participating in the SOE Youth Empowerment Project, which the Unity Party insists is designed to offer opportunities for all youth. The Youth Congress further called for Grigsby’s immediate dismissal, expressing concerns that his actions are detrimental to the collective goals of empowering the youth in Liberia.
