The need for urgent humanitarian assistance in earth vibration prone village of Yegbedu in the Kissi Chiefdom of Foya cannot be overemphasize as over 1000 residents, mainly women and children struggle to get food. The situation is alarming and need urgent action to curb the humanitarian crisis caused by the fear of the sound of the vibration from the ground.
“We are facing a dire situation as the health workers have abandoned the local health facility due to the constant threat of ground vibration in the town, scores of residents said.
In a desperate plea for help, the citizens of Yegbedu called on the government, philanthropists individuals or organizations for immediate intervention to address their pressing health and food needs.
Speaking to the Liberia Forest Media Watch and Journalists from a local radio station, Harligeei, in Yegbedu town, the residents expressed their distress over the closure of the health center and the absence of critical medical services. According to residents, individuals or organizations visiting the town are only inquiring about the situation, leaving the community in a state of uncertainty and vulnerability.
The town chief, Saiah Koibalee highlighted the urgent need for assistance from the government or international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) to provide essential supplies such as food, clothes and medications. With a teary eyes, town chief Koibalee described the grim reality faced by the community as catastrophic, adding that all health workers have departed the community’s health facility and fled the area while locals struggle with limited access to healthcare and basic necessities.
“We need help from the government or we may succumb to illness or starvation before the end of this month,” the town chief emphasized, underlining the critical nature of the constant ground vibration situation. The residents shared their fears about the uncertain future, expressing deep concerns about the looming health crisis and shortages of food and basic health services.
The community of Yegbedu is at a breaking point, grappling with the dual threats of deteriorating health conditions and a lack of essential resources. As the residents of Yegbedu Town confront this alarming predicament, it is imperative that swift action is taken to address their urgent needs. The government, along with relevant stakeholders, must prioritize the well-being of the community and ensure that vital support reaches those most in need before the situation escalates further, said the town chief.
